Yes, backups are included: every hosting plan includes daily backups, and we run routine backups for disaster recovery. That is not the whole answer, though. The Terms of Use also require you to keep your own independent backups, and that requirement exists for your protection.
What we keep
Daily backups are a listed feature on every hosting plan, and section 8 of the Terms of Use describes what they are for: disaster recovery. If something takes the service down, that is the copy that brings it back.
Why you keep your own
A disaster recovery backup exists to restore the service. It is not a guarantee against every way data can be lost, and no single backup system is. That is why section 8 puts it plainly: you must keep your own independent backups. A copy that lives only on the same hosting it protects is one incident away from disappearing with it. Independent means a copy you control, stored somewhere other than the hosting account itself.
A simple backup habit
- Export your site files and database on a schedule you control.
- Keep the copy off the server: your own computer, your own cloud storage, or both.
- Take a fresh copy before and after any major change to the site.
- Test a restore occasionally. A backup nobody has ever restored is a hope, not a plan.
One more line worth knowing: once admin, hosting, server, or DNS credentials are handed over to you or your designee, responsibility for the code, content, configuration, security, and data shifts to you under section 6 of the Terms of Use. Your own independent backup is what makes that responsibility comfortable to carry.
