Locksmith SEO New York work starts with five boroughs, four of them on islands, and a van that often has to cross water to reach the customer. This post sets out one page per borough, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, each with a response time that accounts for the bridge or tunnel on the way. It draws on Census Bureau counts for the boroughs and on our Key Korner case study from San Diego.
How many locksmiths the Census counts by borough
Manhattan (New York County) leads with 63 locksmith establishments with paid employees in the Census Bureau's 2023 County Business Patterns, followed by Brooklyn (Kings County) with 52, Queens with 34, the Bronx with 15 and Staten Island (Richmond County) with 14, a five-borough total of 178. The 2023 County Business Patterns also counts 35 in Nassau County, 28 in Westchester County, 21 in Suffolk County, 13 in Bergen County and 11 in Hudson County. Across all 19 metro counties with a locksmith row, including smaller counts in Morris, Essex, Middlesex and six other counties, the 2023 County Business Patterns total is 334.
Those counts do not track population. The Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 estimates give Queens 2,358,182 residents and Manhattan 1,664,862, yet Queens has about half as many locksmith establishments in the 2023 County Business Patterns. County Business Patterns leaves out owner-operators without payroll, so a one-van locksmith working alone is missing from these numbers.
Locksmith SEO New York: one page per borough
Each borough is a county, a set of neighborhoods and a separate trip for the van, so each earns a page of its own. A borough page for a locksmith should carry:
- The borough and its county. Brooklyn is Kings County and Staten Island is Richmond County, so the page names both the borough and the county.
- The neighborhoods covered, in local terms. Harlem, the Upper West Side, Chelsea and the Financial District in Manhattan; Williamsburg, Park Slope, Bay Ridge and Flatbush in Brooklyn; Astoria, Long Island City, Flushing and Jamaica in Queens; Mott Haven, Fordham and Riverdale in the Bronx; St. George, New Dorp and Tottenville on Staten Island.
- The services the van carries into that borough. Residential lockouts, commercial lock work, car keys and safe work, listed only where the locksmith offers them in that borough.
- The expected response time and the base it is measured from, covered in the next section.
Five borough pages are the starting set. Our Local SEO extras include an extra service area page, one more neighborhood page targeting its own searches, so a locksmith based in Long Island City can add a separate Astoria page once Astoria jobs justify it.
Response times that include the crossing
The Key Korner coverage map lists the distance and expected response time for every neighborhood it serves. In New York the same figure has to include the route, because a van dispatched from one base reaches each borough by a different crossing, or by none:
- Manhattan to Brooklyn: the Brooklyn, Manhattan or Williamsburg bridge, or the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel into Red Hook.
- Manhattan to Queens: the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge or the Queens-Midtown Tunnel.
- Queens or Manhattan to the Bronx: the RFK Bridge, the Bronx-Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges from Queens, or the Harlem River bridges from Manhattan.
- Brooklyn to Staten Island: the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, the only road link between Staten Island and another borough.
- Brooklyn to Queens: a shared land border in the south and east, with the Pulaski and Kosciuszko bridges over Newtown Creek on the northern routes.
Write each page's time as a range taken from your own job records for that borough, name the base it starts from, and name the crossing. A Bay Ridge base reaches Staten Island over one bridge, while the same trip from Midtown first crosses into Brooklyn or New Jersey. If a borough is served only at certain hours, say which hours on its page, and update the range when a new van or base changes the routes.
Citations and the profile for a borough locksmith
How each borough shows up in the city line of an address is set out on our page about local SEO in New York. For a locksmith with a shop in Astoria or Mott Haven, the task is to fix one exact version of the name, address and phone and keep it, and we build and clean every citation to that version: 30 on general directories with Starter, 40 industry and local listings, tracked, with Business, and 80+ in deep industry and local stacks with Biz+. Your primary category, locksmith, decides which industry directories we use.
A profile carries one address. A locksmith that opens a second real shop, such as a Bronx storefront in addition to a Brooklyn one, adds it as an additional Google Business Profile location, sold as an extra. We optimize the profile and support review generation on every plan, and the Business and Biz+ plans add monthly posts, Q&A, services and UTM tagging, so a post can describe a commercial rekey in the Financial District or a safe opening in Riverdale.
Review response management, another extra, answers every review in your voice within 24 hours. A reply that names the job and the neighborhood, such as a car key in Fordham or a lockout in Park Slope, keeps each answer tied to the customer who wrote it.
What the Key Korner case study shows
We have no client in New York, so the example here comes from San Diego. Our locksmith local SEO case study covers Key Korner Sports Arena, a San Diego locksmith that already had 24/7 emergency service across San Diego County, 5-star Google and Yelp reviews and a 15-minute average emergency response. We built a site with six service categories, a coverage map of 40+ neighborhoods with distance and expected response time for each, and location-specific copy on each service page, and made its name, address and phone consistent across 80+ directory citations.
The case study reports Google Search Console figures for late June to late September 2026: 136 clicks from 21,200 impressions. 'locksmith poway' averaged position 5.6, 'locksmith point loma' 7.0, 'locksmith rancho bernardo' 7.8 and 'locksmith pacific beach' 9.5, and the head term 'locksmith san diego' averaged 13.2, on page two. Those figures come from a San Diego site and cover Google web search only, so they say nothing about where a New York site would rank. What carries over is the structure: named areas, a stated response time for each, and one consistent listing everywhere.
